Let God Have The Steering-Wheel Of Your Life

It seems to be a popular thing today to blame your past and everyone associated with you in the past for any bad thing that happens to you in your present.  I was reading today about a man who has become very popular today because of a simple prayer he prayed to God.  His name is Jabez.  You may know about the simple prayer he prayed (“Oh that Thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that Thine hand might be with me, and that Thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!” I Chronicles 4:10).

The thing that caught my attention was the verse just before this one.  It described Jabez this way … “And Jabez was more honorable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, ‘Because I bare him with sorrow’” (I Chronicles 4:9).  “Jabez” means sorrow.  What a name to carry around with you wherever you would go!  Can you imagine if every time someone addressed you that they called out, “Hey Sorrow, what’s up?”  Or, if you were introduced to complete strangers … “I’d like you to meet my friend, Sorrow.

The thought that appeared to me this morning was this; if anyone could complain about where they started, or all the bad things that happened in their past, it would have been Jabez/Sorrow.  But that is not what he did.  Instead, he asked God to bless him and enlarge his coast.  He did not allow his past to influence his present state, or where he was heading in his future!  He determined that God was big enough to overcome the past challenges he had in his life.  He trusted God to do more for him that he even had seen in the past.  He believed that God was really God and could help him where his own family or situation had failed him in the past.

Today is a good day for you to trust God to take care of you rather than wallowing in the negative things in your past.  We all have had negative things happen in our past, but we don’t all allow that past to control us.  Instead of looking back to decide where blame ought to go, and to whom it ought to go to, why not look up and decide that you will trust God more than those in your past?  Today is a great day to start all over again!  Today is a great day to move out of the driver’s seat of your life giving the wheel over to God to go wherever He wants with your life!  Don’t look in the rear-view mirror!  Look to the Master!  He will bless you beyond imagination.

Regardless of your lot in life, you can build something beautiful on it.” – Zig Ziglar
